When you need care

Pastoral care & sacraments

Some moments call for a clergy member, a prayer, or a community that will walk beside you. Begin with the need you have. We'll help with the next step.

LIFE IN CHRIST

Sacraments and preparation

Sacraments are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace. Baptism and Holy Eucharist are the two great sacraments given by Christ to the Church.

Marriage is a covenant of love and faithfulness between two consenting adults. Begin with a conversation about an Episcopal wedding, available dates, and the required premarital counseling.

Confirmation, Reception & Reaffirmation

Confirmation is a mature commitment to faith, expressed through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. If you are new to the Episcopal Church or returning to a commitment made earlier in life, ask about preparation for Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation.

Holy Eucharist

In Holy Communion, we share the bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus’ Last Supper and give thanks for his life, death, and resurrection. The Eucharist is at the heart of our worship together.

Baptism

In Baptism, we are welcomed into the Christian community through water and the Holy Spirit. People of every age may be baptized. Clergy will help you understand preparation, sponsors, and timing.

Ask about Baptism

The Episcopal Church also recognizes five sacramental rites: Confirmation, Marriage, Ordination, Reconciliation of a Penitent (Confession), and Unction (Anointing of the Sick). These offer God’s grace at particular moments in our lives.

Considering ordained ministry?
The Church ordains bishops, priests, and deacons through prayer and the laying on of hands. If you are wondering about a call to ordained ministry, clergy can help you begin a process of discernment.

WHEN YOU NEED CARE

Prayer and private conversation

You don’t need to know exactly what to say. Clergy are here for prayer, conversation, and support through illness, grief, and the changes life brings.

Request prayer

Ask the parish to pray with you. Call the office about a prayer request and say whether you would like it shared on the parish prayer list. For a private concern, arrange a conversation with clergy.

Call about prayer

Anointing & pastoral visits

Anointing offers prayer for healing with the laying on of hands and holy oil. If you or someone you love is ill, preparing for surgery, or unable to come to church, ask about anointing or a pastoral visit.

Private conversation & Confession

Clergy can listen, pray with you, and help with a pastoral concern. Reconciliation of a Penitent, also called Confession, is available by appointment. Email Mother Lainie to arrange a time; please save confidential details for your conversation.

Funerals & Christian burial
